Juba was handed over to the Sudanese People's Liberation Army in the year 2005 and with the advent of peace, the United Nations increased its work in this region. A mission and a trading post named 'Gondokoro' was located in the vicinity of Juba in the 19th century.
The city of Juba is a river port and forms the southern terminus of traffic along the river Nile or to be more precise along the White Nile. You can drive along the paved road in Juba which is the only concrete road here built by the British in the early 1950s. Juba is undergoing renovation and will sport a new look in the coming years.
