Sudan Tourism - Juba

The city of Juba is one of the chief tourist destinations in Sudan owing to its natural beauty and strategic location. Juba acts as the state of Central Equatoria and the regional capital of the Southern Sudan. Juba in Sudan is a favorite tourist haunt because it is easily accessible from different corners of the world. There are international fights coming to the airport in Juba which makes it easier for the tourists to access the city. If you are planning for a vacation in Sudan, then do not miss out the city of Juba which is located strategically in the region.

The Juba Conference has much importance in the history of the country. An agreement was planned to add the southern part of Sudan to that of the country of Uganda. But the hopes of the British government wad crashed in the year 1947. The soldiers of the southern part of Sudan were the first ones to organize a mutiny which lead to the First Sudanese Civil War in the year 1955 and lasted till 1972. The city played a key role during the Second Sudanese Civil War. Juba was handed over to the Sudanese People's Liberation Army in the year 2005 and with the advent of peace, the United Nations increased its work in this region. A mission and a trading post named 'Gondokoro' was located in the vicinity of Juba in the 19th century.

The city of Juba is a river port and forms the southern terminus of traffic along the river Nile or to be more precise along the White Nile. You can drive along the paved road in Juba which is the only concrete road here built by the British in the early 1950s. Juba is undergoing renovation and will sport a new look in the coming years. The city boasts of one of he premiere institutions in the country that is the Juba National University where students from different parts of the country come to study. The tourists coming to Juba try to visit the university which has become a place of interest for the global travelers coming here.
